Inspiration: Coachella

Music festivals always bring out the best outfits, and Coachella was no different this year! I'm feeling inspired by the festival look as the weather gets warmer, and I wanted to put together some of my favorite looks for you guys. Also, although it's no Coachella, my boyfriend's school's spring weekend is this weekend, so this mood will definitely translate into my outfits (even though it definitely won't be as hot as California). I'll try and snag some pictures for you guys!

August Inspiration: The New Retro

So I do realize that it's almost the end of the month and I'm just now posting August Inspiration, but since this is a look that I feel will carry over into September, I'm going to say this is my end of summer beginning of fall inspiration and that's why it came so late! ;) Regardless, what I'm obsessing with right now is the look that all the magazines are calling the "New Retro," which is basically that lovely Fifties sophisticated and feminine feel with a modern twist. I definitely have always loved the fifties, in fact my kitchen decorations for college have been fifties inspired with cherry red accents and the cutest cherry print apron that my mom made for me based off of a vintage Vogue pattern! I even just got this cute retro clock to put up. I'm obsessed with the idea of this look in my wardrobe too, I just love the silhouttes and the fall tones that make it look so classically cool. Just think Louis Vuitton's Fall 2010 collection, dab on some red lipstick and you're set!

July Inspiration: Ahoy Matey!

For this months inspiration, it only seemed fitting to do something that I've literally been obsessing over lately. I don't know if it's the fact that America's birthday is the month which calls for all things red, white, and blue, or if it's my long lasting love for all things striped; Maybe it's the fact that I can't stop buying things that are navy, but I'm just super in love with the whole nautical theme lately.

It's not like we haven't seen it before, in fact it usually pops up in our fashion world most summers, but lately with the heat-wave thats been going on in the New York area, I want nothing more than to throw on a navy dress with some detailed bows and trek out on a boat into the breezy waters! Unfortunately I don't have a boat, and I only have one such dress in my possession, so I have to go a different route. Stick humid NYC calls more for cut-off shorts with a navy striped tank top and some gold accessories! I'm trying to get over the heat and grin and bear it for some good outfits though - after seeing Zooey Deschanel wear a sailor dress and tights when performing as She & Him on the 4th of July in 100 degree weather, I'm motivated to man up!!!

Anyway, it seems I'm not the only one who is inspired by these themes lately - check out my friend Q's blog to see a recent post of hers on Breton stripes, along with more great inspiration! So, dear readers, I leave you with the source of all this sailor love, in the form of a ton of pictures I've found lately that I can't get enough of! So roll up your boyfriend jeans, throw on a sailor cap and enjoy!
