the amsterdam chainsaw massacre

A couple of days ago the cover of Dazed and Confused's February issue hit the internet showing model Magdalena Frackowiak wearing one of Viktor & Rolf's Spring/ Summer 2010 pieces. To be honest, I wasn't that big of a fan of the show when I first saw it, I tend to focus my love more on things you can actually wear, but after seeing this spread I've changed my mind. Though I'd still never wear these, I love the way that the photos are so simple because you don't need anything other than dress. The dress alone stands as a work of art, and if it did have more than a white background it would be too much. The spread is called "The Amsterdam Chainsaw Massacre," with photography by Josh Olins, and bears the tag line "In a season when fashion houses are playing it safe, maverick designers Viktor & Rolf took on the credit crunch with their thrillingly impractical mutilation of tulle." The images are beautiful, and I thought I'd share them with you guys, maybe not as a source to pick your next outfit from, but definitely a source of inspiration!

  3. i love this spread! i totally agree with you - not something you would wear and more difficult to relate to... but after reading that segment explaining it, it makes more sense.... and, let's be honest, it is totally beautiful!!

the first and last photos are my favourite. such a good spread and fabulous idea to mention it here. it really is inspiring. xx

  4. Nice spread! I was exactly the same and quite apprehensive of the Viktor and Rolf's designs, initally. But now, they're really intricate and make such a statement, that they're perfect on a blank canvas; no accessories needed because the dresses speak for themselves.

I think the second is my favourite, the shade of the dress is just beautiful as well as the prominent assymetric shape. Love it!

i'm like you... i look to collections for more practical pieces that i could actually recreate or get some wear out of. however, this is jaw-droppingly gorgeous.

  18. Oh my goodness, what is wierd is that I was styling my scarf today in my hair just like the black bow on that girls head. I was worried it looked weird, but after seeing this I think I shall wear it! I agree with you, I rarely put a lot of thought into clothes I can't really wear, but these dresses are works of art!
